Challenge
Due to rapid expansion and acquisition, supply chain processes at Kraft had evolved somewhat organically. This inevitably lead to a number of inefficiencies including duplication of work and processes which added no value – either to Kraft or the customer.
Although it was collectively agreed these inefficiencies existed, finding them was a major challenge. Kraft established a dedicated team to approach this task. After a thorough evaluation of tools, they selected Corporate Modeler to support this process management initiative.
Solution
Kraft chose the Casewise Framework to provide a structure for modeling the ‘as-is’ situation. They used the customization offered by Corporate Modeler to refine the framework for their specific needs. This involved focusing on the higher level, business-focused cells rather than the IT and data architectures described in the lower sections.
Using their own tailored framework, Kraft divided complex supply chain operations into ‘end-to-end’ processes and analyzed these in detail. Through visual analysis and comparison, and by running simulations, Kraft was able to locate inefficiencies across their ‘end-to-end’ process flows. Corporate Modeler was then used to design, communicate and implement a range of key process improvements.
Results
As a result of the business analysis work undertaken using Corporate Modeler, Kraft has significantly reduced supply chain costs and cycle times. They also now have complete understanding of their enterprise processes that helps the organization react faster to new business challenges.
