- The team uses Corporate Modeler and the Corporate Exchange shared repository installed on a Windows Terminal Server to centralize business and technical design processes.
- Corporate Modeler enables mapping tasks to job roles for alignment of organizations with the business process model.
- The team publishes documentation in HTML and MS Word formats using Corporate Publisher.
- The Rational Requisite Pro link provides traceability from requirements to the business process model.
- Toolbus, a 3rd party tool, provides the ability to import data entities from Oracle Designer into Corporate Modeler to provide traceability between the data archi tecture and the business process model.
- Custom developed add-ins, now in the design stage, will improve traceability from the business process model to testing and training materials.
Results
- Although in the early stages of implementation, the tools integration strategy is improving organizational effectiveness by facilitating access to and usefulness of design documentation.
- Corporate Modeler has significantly streamlined the process of mapping business tasks to job roles, saving months of work.
- Ongoing implementation efforts will continue to improve program life-cycle methodology adoption, test case linkages, training material organization, and further integration with Rational Software tools.

CMS, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, is the US Federal Government agency that administers the >$450B annual Medicare budget to provide health coverage to approximately 40 million Americans. The new accounting system, HIGLAS (Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System) when complete, will be the largest monolithic accounting system in the world.
